Origin of the Demon Hunters in World of Warcraft

Story and origin of the Demon Hunters in World of Warcraft: Legion

The Demon Hunters of the Warcraft universe are a soon to be playable class that has existed for some time and thus has been requested as a playable 'hero' class since the inception of the Death Knight from Wrath of the Lich King. The very first Demon Hunter of Azeroth was Illidan Stormrage, who gained the title at the time of the War of the Ancients when he first vowed to eradicate the Burning Legion.
During the War of the Ancients Illidan Stormrage was a member
of the Highborn, who were the mages of the Night Elf society (basically a whole social class of their own)during the events of the war. During his time in the Hihgborn Illidan was able to 'meet' Sargeras in a way... not really, just communicated through mental speech, anway. Illidan offered the dark Titan a relic called the Dragon Soul, which he liked very very much, giving Illidan the gift of a new type of vision that gave him the ability to see magic and demons wherevery they were.

The process of attaining this new sight forced Illidan to witness the destruction of countless worlds the Legion invaded, conquered, and eventually either destroyed or made a permanent presence on. This led Ilidan to the truth that the Legion is truly vast and an ever omnipotent danger that will always threaten life and Azeroth itself if not dismantled entirely. With his new found sight, which came along with all sorts of new powers aswell, Illidan set out to continue his work in disrupting the goals of Azshara and the Burning Legion tearing his world asunder from the inside.

I already went over a lot of most of Illidans story in my Article I posted about him recently, so if you want to know more about him go check that out. Illidans story was just so impactful to the overall Demon Hunter image and personality (being the first one and all...) So I felt it necessary to talk about him before moving on to the other
details.

The two races that have the ability to become Demon Hunters are Blood Elves and Night Elves. Although in the lore the Demon Hunters are described as a class that any race can achieve, we will only be playing as Demon Hunters who were trained and under the employ of Illidan Stormrage Himself, since he only trained Night Elves and Blood Elves.

In the Burning Crusade expansion the Demon Hunters, the very colleagues of the characters we will be playing as are outside of the Black Temple training. Some of the named NPCs have a deep back story that I can't go into fully here, but don't worry! I will go into the story that we hear in the game. (quests from Altruis here are source of info)

Veradis was one of five possible aspirants sent to Illidan by Kael'thas, Illidan had promised to attempted to train these blood elves in exchange for his years of loyal service. Three out of the five elves simply died from the intense training Illidan had put them through, one went mad, and the other passed through unscathed. Illidan saw so much potential in this one Elf, Veredis, that he decided to make him his personal protege. The amount of control that Veredis managed to maintain over his own powers was startling and would obviously make him a prime Demon Hunter.

Alandien is the only known female Demon Hunter (prior to Legion that is) and, like the other two named night elf Demon Hunters in this article, she trained Veredis (the one shown above) until he surpassed her in skill and prowess.

These two honestly don't have too much story or any lore really so I wont go into too much detail about them.

The three Night Elfs listed above are the trainers for the new initiates. And that is really all they do... Other than being the objectives in a kill quest or two but thats really not all that much...

Now I'll get into some of the more Role-playish aspects of this upcoming hero class. The death knights have given up everything they are, life, love, humanity, and exchanged it all for a thirst of insane amounts of fel magical power, they do this for a good reason of course. Demon Hunters are power hungry and are often looked upon with estranged and frightened eyes because of their ability to consume demonic energies as if it were nutrition. They live this lifestyle because Demon Hunters want for only one thing, the absolute eradication and dismantlement of the Burning Legion, simply put: if the Demon Hunter pursued their craft for the purpose of attaining power to wield over others then they would have just out right joined the Burning Legion in the first place, and believe me many of them have throughout the lore....
Chances are if you are reading this then you wouldn't mind a spoiler or two... So if that is so then I would suggest you go over to Youtube and look for one of the many Demon Hunter starting zone videos... I personally suggest Nobbel since he's just awesome with lore and stuff anyway, and that was the one that I watched. After watching that you should get a good Idea on what kind of Backstory you could give you character if you are a role-player. The possibilities are endless here and honestly I'm elated to see the stuff were getting in this expac... Well as always, I hope you enjoyed reading this, and that you have a nice day.
